title = {Magnetic Graphene Oxide Modified with Sulfur for Selective Removal of Mercury from Water and Wastewater Samples followed by FI-CV-AAS},
abstract ={Background: The swift pace of industrial development and the widespread introduction of mercury as a toxic heavy metal made the identification and removal of this pollutant, particularly from water resources, critically important. This study focuses on the development of a magnetic nanosorbent composed of graphene oxide and sulfur-containing functional groups, designed to enhance both the adsorption selectivity and removal efficiency of mercury. Methods: S@MGO adsorbent was prepared for the removal of mercury from both water and wastewater samples. Mercury concentrations were determined using cold vapor atomic absorption spectrometry. The adsorbent w:as char:acterized using SEM, EDX, and FT-IR. An experimental design approach was employed to optimize parameters influencing mercury removal. The study investigated adsorption isotherms, adsorption capacity, stability and reusability, the effect of interfering ions, and mercury removal efficiency in various water and wastewater samples. Results: The optimal adsorption parameters for the prepared adsorbent were determined to be a solution pH of 6.8, an adsorption time of 29 minutes, and an adsorbent dosage of 53.0 mg. Adsorption isotherm data exhibited a strong correlation with the Langmuir model (R² = 0.9998). The adsorbent demonstrated a high adsorption capacity of 401 mg/g, closely approaching the maximum capacity predicted by the Langmuir model (476.19 mg/g). Furthermore, surface modification with sulfur groups enhanced the adsorbent’s selectivity for mercury ions in the presence of competing cations. The S@MGO adsorbent exhibited good stability and reusability, maintaining a removal efficiency exceding 90% after 10 adsorption-desorption cycles. Finally, the mercury removal efficiency in various water samples exceeded 99%, with RSDs% below 4.1%. Conclusion: The magnetic properties of the S@MGO adsorbent facilitate its rapid collection following the removal process. Surface modification with sulfur-containing functional groups enhances its selectivity for mercury over other metal ions in aqueous solutions. The synthesized adsorbent offers several advantages, including high adsorption capacity, high removal efficiency, and a short removal time, making it a promising material for mercury remediation.},

title = {Investigation and risk assessment of heavy metals in walnuts produced in Toyserkan County, Hamedan, Iran},
abstract ={Background: Walnut is the most widely distributed tree nut worldwide and has been consumed as a nutrient-rich food for many years. The aim of this study was to investigate the concentration and risk assessment of heavy metals in walnuts produced in Toyserkan County, Hamedan Province. Materials and Methods: 45 walnut samples were collected from 3 cities and 15 villages of Toyserkan county by systematic-random method. After preparation and digestion of the samples by acid method, the concentration of heavy metals was measured by atomic absorption spectrometry. EDI, HQ and HI indices were used for risk assessment. Results: The average concentrations of heavy metals Cu, Zn, Fe, Mn, Na and K were 16.12, 47.43, 88.53, 44.25, 280.9, and 182.6 mg/kg, respectively. The results of the Kruskal-Wallis and Mann-Whitney tests showed that the difference between the mean concentrations of iron, manganese, sodium, and potassium was significant with the change in location. Spearman correlation test also showed that there is a significant correlation between heavy metals and mineral elements. The EDI and HQ index for each of the studied heavy metals and the HI index for the total of heavy metals in both age groups were less than 1 and within the permissible limit. Conclusion: The average concentration of copper and manganese was higher and zinc was lower than the amount recommended by FAO and World Health Organization. Compared to other different countries in the world, the concentration of iron, zinc, manganese and sodium was higher and potassium was lower. The heavy metals studied were considered to be non-carcinogenic for both adults and children and did not pose a significant risk of adverse health effects. Special attention to the contamination of soil and agricultural products, especially walnuts, with heavy metals and the control and reduction of the entry of these pollutants through human sources such as chemical fertilizers and pesticides in Toyserkan County is necessary.},

abstract ={Background: Swimming pools, despite supervision by health centers, can be sources of the transmission of infectious diseases due to non-expert pool operators. This research aimed to evaluate the HSE of swimming pools in Khoy City from 2022 to 2024. Materials and Methods: We conducted this practical study on seven swimming pools in Khoy. We performed HSE assessments based on checklists and water test results from the Health Deputy of the Khoy Medical Sciences Faculty. Data were analyzed using SPSS software, due to the non-parametric nature of the data, Wilcoxon and Spearman tests were used for comparing the parameters with relevant standards. Results: The average score of compliance of HSE parameters with relevant national health standards was 86%. Kabiry pool and mineral hot water pools had the highest and lowest compliance with the standards, respectively. Fecal coliform was absent in all pools except the mineral hot water ones. The average heterotrophic plate count was below 200 in all pools except in mineral water pools, where it exceeded 200. Microbial water quality scores ranged from 40 to 95. The average amount of free chlorine met the standard and showed a significant inverse relationship with the numbers of coliforms and HPC. Conclusion: Due to inadequate regular purification, the water turbidity of the swimming pools exceeded the standard. Consequently, the water microbial quality was not favorable despite sufficient residual chlorine levels. This indicates that the pool attendants focused on chlorination and neglected water quality. So, we recommend that the pool staff receive proper training in pool operation.},

title = {Evaluation of the Efficiency of Bentonite@Fe3O4 Composite in Activating Peroxymonosulfate for the Degradation of Acid Blue 113 Dye from Aqueous Solutions},
abstract ={Background: The presence of synthetic dyes that are toxic and non-biodegradable, in receiving waters leads to reduced dissolved oxygen, water turbidity, and decreased photosynthesis in aquatic plants. Therefore, the aim of this study was to degrade acid blue 113 (AB113) dye through the generation of reactive radicals by activating peroxymonosulfate (PMS) using a Bentonite@Fe3O4 catalyst. Materials and Methods: In this study, the Bentonite@Fe3O4 catalyst was synthesized using a hydrothermal-chemical method and characterized through diagnostic analyses. In the catalytic process, the effects of various parameters such as pH (3–11), catalyst dosage (0–400 mg/L), PMS concentration (0–1 mM), and reaction time (0–120 min) were investigated. The identification of reactive radicals and the toxicity test of the treated solution were also conducted. Results: Successful synthesis of the Bentonite@Fe3O4 catalyst was confirmed by SEM, XRD, and FTIR analyses. Complete dye removal was achieved under the following operational conditions: pH 3, catalyst dosage of 200 mg/L, PMS concentration of 0.5 mM, and a reaction time of 100 min. Sulfate radicals (SO4•⁻), hydroxyl radicals (•OH), and superoxide radicals (O2•⁻) were identified as the active species in the dye degradation process. A 1.56-fold increase in the growth of mint plants in the treated solution compared to the untreated one emphasized the effective toxicity reduction achieved by the current process. Conclusion: The findings of the study demonstrated that catalytic treatment of the AB113 solution could produce an effluent suitable for safe disposal.},

title = {Comprehensive investigation of plant phytoremediation mechanisms for the removal of various pollutants from soil},
abstract ={Background: From the global point of view, the soil is considered as the third major component of the environment, and its pollution is currently one of the most important challenges for environmental organizations worldwide, as well as the most significant environmental problems for countries. Therefore, the present study aims to comprehensively investigate the mechanisms of phytoremediation as an effective and sustainable tool for the purification of various pollutants from the soil. Materials and Methods: This study was a descriptive review conducted in 2024 to report the process of search, documentation, and screening of the PRISMA checklist for systematic reviews. The search method included articles from 2000 to 2023 using the English keywords Phytoremediation, bioremediation, soil contamination, Heavy metals in soil, and their corresponding Persian equivalents on reputable websites such as PubMed, Scopus, Web of Science, Google Scholar, Magiran, and SID. Results: After searching with relevant keywords, a total of 1021 studies were found, and based on the criteria of input and output, 50 articles were used. According to the results, the main pollutants in soil are heavy metals, BTEX pollutants, and petroleum substances, which can be effectively remediated through various phytoremediation mechanisms, including hydraulic control, phytodegradation, phytoextraction, phytostabilization, phytovolatilization, rhizosphere degradation, and rhizofiltration, as a novel technology for addressing these contaminations. Conclusion: The high costs of physical and chemical methods of soil remediation have led to the utilization of phytoremediation as a more cost-effective and simple approach for soil purification. The main advantage of this method over others is its affordability and simplicity, while its disadvantages include the potential accumulation of metals in bioaccumulating plants and the consumption of contaminated plant biomass by animals, limited climatic conditions, incomplete understanding of this technology, and its lengthy duration.},

title = {Strategies for reducing arsenic accumulation in rice grains: A systematic review},
abstract ={Background: Arsenic (As) is one of the most toxic heavy metals posing a serious threat to human health by affecting the food chain. Compared to other cereals, rice has a high potential for As accumulation due to growth in flooded conditions. Therefore, it is essential to develop strategies for reducing As accumulation in rice grain. Accordingly, the present study was conducted with the aim of investigating the strategies for reducing As accumulation in rice grain. Materials and Methods: In the initial search of articles, a total of 164 articles published between 2004 and 2024, and were reduced after removing duplicates to 126 articles. Then, in the screening stage, the title and abstract of the articles were reviewed and at the end, 92 articles remained. The full text of the screened articles was studied and finally, 68 articles were used in this study. Results: The results showed that water management practices such as intermittent irrigation can help reduce As content of rice plants due to changing the redox status of the soil. In addition, As uptake and toxicity in rice can be reduced by the application of organic amendments (biochar and organic fertilizers) and inorganic amendments (iron, silicon and sulfur). Another way to reduce arsenic absorption by rice is the use of nanotechnology. Selection of low As accumulating rice cultivars and inoculation with microorganisms are among the other agronomic practices successfully employed for reducing As concentration in rice grains. Conclusion: The use of appropriate management practices can enhance rice tolerance to As stress and reduce entry into the food chain.},

abstract ={Background: A complex decision-making process that has to be done by examining several regional circumstances, giving priority to places for determining the possibility of using water resources with pollution potential. Therefore, managing water resources calls for the choice of the best decision-making technique for the growth and possible evaluation of areas vulnerable to future pollution. The current study looked at priority depending on pollution potential in the Khorramabad aquifer's groundwater resources. Materials and Methods: Landsat 8 OLI sensor imagery was used to create a land use map for this study. Moreover, ArcGIS 10.3 and Envi 5.3 tools were used at several phases of creating the Khorramabad basin landuse map and validating the accuracy of the forecasted maps. Various Khorramabad well parameters were gathered and computed; depending on their relevance in generating pollution potential, they were input into the Borda and bargaining algorithms. They were then scored according to the parameters investigated. Results: The two algorithms, Borda and bargaining, used inside game theory helped to find the most efficient parameters in the wells as well as the most important pollution possible sources. The most efficient parameters were those of carbonate with a score of 179.5, phosphate with a score of 135.5, and sodium adsorption ratio (SAR) with a score of 130.5, all of which were derived from the Borda scoring approach. The most successful parameters were carbonate, chloride, and sulfate by means of the bargaining algorithm. Conclusion: Finally, the prioritization of water resources was presented using both methods; in the Borda approach, the Sarab Yas, Aliabad, and Balilvand wells had top priority. Game theory has been applied as a multi-dimensional solution in numerous decision-making sectors and eventually delivers a complete and managerial approach.},

title = {Assessment of Greywater Treatment Efficiency Using of Surface Adsorption with Iron oxide nanoparticles},
abstract ={Background: In recent years, the management and treatment of greywater have become critical environmental challenges due to the presence of non-biodegradable pollutants that conventional wastewater treatment methods fail to fully remove. This study aims to evaluate the efficiency of a hybrid approach combining adsorption using iron oxide nanoparticles (Fe₃O₄) and advanced chemical oxidation with UV/H₂O₂ for greywater treatment. Materials and Methods: Greywater samples were first treated with Fe₃O₄ nanoparticles under optimized conditions: pH=5, contact time of 40 minutes, and adsorbent dosage of 1.2 g/L. Subsequently, UV/H₂O₂ oxidation was applied to enhance removal efficiency. Results: Adsorption alone achieved removal efficiencies of 57% for COD, 36% for BOD, 7.5% for TKN, and 60% for TP. Following UV/H₂O₂ oxidation, COD removal increased to over 93%, reducing residual COD to 12.1 mg/L. The process showed optimal performance at lower pH levels 4 to 5, while H₂O₂ concentrations up to 7 mM improved oxidation efficiency without significant enhancement beyond this level. Conclusion: The integration of physical adsorption and advanced oxidation not only overcomes the limitations of conventional methods but also meets environmental discharge standards. With high efficiency and relatively low operational costs, this dual-stage method offers a sustainable solution for greywater management in urban and industrial settings.},

title = {Ecological risk assessment of soils contaminated with heavy metals around landfill sites in Iran: a systematic review},
abstract ={Background: Over the recent decades, the growth of urbanization and production of municipal solid waste (MSW) in Iran has led to severe soil pollution with heavy metals (Cd, Pb, Cr, Ni, Zn, Cu, As and Hg) around the landfill sites. The heavy metals are highly stable and pose a threat to ecosystems, food chains, and human health. This comprehensive review examines the concentration levels of heavy metals in soils around the landfill sites of Iran and the ecological risk assessment. Materials and Methods: The methodology was performed based on the PRISMA guidelines, and the global databases Scopus, Web of Science, PubMed and the Iranian database SID and Magiran were used using relevant keywords such as "Soil*", "heavy metal*" and "landfill*". In addition, risk assessment indicators including contamination factor (CF), contamination degree (CD) and Ecological Risk Index (URI) were calculated. Results: Of 102 initial studies, 11 eligible studies were selected and metals concentration data were extracted. The results indicated that the highest concentration of heavy metal was related to cadmium (180 mg/kg) with a CF equal to 782.61 and a total URI of 23480.89 creating an extremely severe risk in the soils around the landfill site of Chaloos city. Conclusion: The results of the present study indicated that there was little data on soil contamination at landfill sites in Iran. In addition, the existing data also had a lack of integrity in the number and type of heavy metals measured. This makes the ecological risk assessment of soils difficult; there are some quantitative and qualitative challenges in the data presented in the selected studies and make it difficult to judge points with high, medium and low levels of contaminants. Therefore, it is necessary to take action in coherent planning for the design of an integrated study model for continuous monitoring of soils around the landfill sites with emphasis on pollution caused by heavy metals.},

title = {Photocatalytic degradation of the 2,4-dichlorophenoxyacetic acid in aqueous media using Fe2O3/Mn3O4 nanoparticles combined with sodium persulfate activation under ultraviolet irradiation},
abstract ={Background: The toxicity and persistence of 2,4-dichlorophenoxyacetic acid (2,4-D) lead to its entry into water resources, raising health concerns. This study evaluated the efficiency of a photocatalytic process using Fe₂O₃/Mn3O4 and sodium persulfate (PS) activation under ultraviolet irradiation for removing this contaminant. Materials and Methods: In this experimental study, Mn₃O₄ and Fe₂O₃ nanoparticles were synthesized via chemical precipitation and hydrothermal methods, respectively. The effects of initial pH (4–10), PS concentration (0–0.8 mg/L), and nanoparticle dosage (0.0–0.04 g/L) on the removal of 10 mg/L 2,4-D were investigated in a batch system. Experimental design and optimization were performed using the response surface methodology (RSM) with a central composite design (CCD). Results: Under optimal conditions (neutral pH, PS: 0.4 mg/L, nanoparticle dosage: 0.02 g/L), the process achieved 67% removal after 120 minutes. Analysis of variance (ANOVA) indicated the quadratic model had excellent accuracy and fit (R2 = 0.99). pH and PS concentration had the greatest influence on efficiency, with reduced performance at extremely low or high values of these parameters. Conclusion: The photocatalytic process effectively degrades 2,4-D in water. RSM proved valuable for modeling, optimization, and understanding interactions among operational parameters, aiding in process comprehension and improvement.},

title = {Investigation of corrosion, scaling potential, and Water Quality Index in storage tanks of hotels in Mashhad},
abstract ={Background: Corrosion and scaling phenomena are among the most important factors affecting water quality, economics, and the lifespan of water transfer and distribution equipment. Materials and Methods: This study aimed to evaluate the corrosion and scaling potential of water in storage tanks at hotels around the Holy Shrine of Imam Reza, and assess the water quality using the drinking Water Quality Index (WQI) in Mashhad. Random water sampling was conducted from 10 hotels, and the physicochemical parameters of the water, i.e. pH, electrical conductivity (EC), total dissolved solids (TDS), total hardness (TH), total alkalinity (T.ALK), carbonate, bicarbonate, chloride, and sulfate were measured. Water stability indices, including the Langelier Saturation Index (LSI), Ryznar Stability Index (RSI), Puckorius Scaling Index (PSI), Larson-Skold Index (LS), and Aggressiveness Index (AI) were calculated and analyzed at the sampling temperature and other temperature scenarios. Results: The results showed that the average pH of the water ranged from 8.00 to 8.80, with most samples falling within the alkaline range. The Langelier Saturation Index indicated that 90% of the water sources were in equilibrium, with only one hotel showing a corrosion potential (LSI<0). As the temperature scenarios increased from 10 to 30 °C, the LSI value increased from 0.59 to 0.79 but remained in equilibrium state. The RSI indicated that the water in all hotels tended towards corrosion (RSI>7). LS and AI, respectively, showed that 100% of the samples have no corrosive properties and that 90% of the hotels had non-aggressive water (AI>12), with a very low probability of corrosion. The correlation matrix revealed a strong positive correlation between the AI and LSI, while a strong negative correlation was observed between the RSI and AI. Based on the WQI classification, the water sources in the hotels generally fell within 73-76 range. Conclusion: This study highlights the importance of regular water quality monitoring in distribution and storage systems, especially in populated areas like Mashhad.},

title = {Photocatalytic degradation of tetracycline antibiotic using Cu-TiO2/CQD composite under visible light from aqueous media: synthesis, characterization and operation parameters},
abstract ={Background: Antibiotics have been raised as one of the most controversial issues in the field of environment due to their high hydrophobicity, bioaccumulation and their resistance to biodegradation. Recently, by adding an external agent to the titanium (TiO2) catalyst, its band gap energy is reduced and electron recombination is prevented. The composite made under visible light can be used with low energy. Therefore, the main aim of this research is to investigate the photocatalytic removal of tetracycline from aqueous solutions using a hybrid composite of copper and carbon quantum dots (CQD) doped with TiO2 under visible light irradiation. Materials and Methods: In the synthesis of Cu-TiO2-CQD composite, first, Cu-TiO2 catalyst was prepared by sol-gel method, and then carbon quantum dots (CQD) were deposited on it. The properties of the synthesized photocatalyst were determined through FESEM, FTIR and XRD analyses. The reactor used in this study was a batch-type reactor and the effect of effective parameters on the process such as pH, initial antibiotic concentration, photocatalyst dosage, reaction kinetics and the ability to recover and reuse the photocatalyst were investigated. Results: The results of FESEM, FTIR and XRD analyses showed that the synthesis of Cu-TiO2-CQD photocatalyst was successful. The highest removal rate of tetracycline antibiotic was achieved at a concentration of 20 mg/L and a contact time of 60 min, at pH=7 and a photocatalyst dosage of 0.8 g/L, which was above 99%. Comparison of kinetic data with pseudo-first-order and pseudo-second-order models showed that the pseudo-first-order model described the tetracycline removal process with better agreement (R2=0.977). The synthesized photocatalyst was reusable for 6 consecutive cycles, and in the sixth step, tetracycline was degraded with an efficiency of 93%. Conclusion: Structural and chemical investigation of the photocatalyst showed that Cu-TiO2-CQD was well synthesized. The Cu-TiO2-CQD photocatalytic process can be used as an effective and efficient process in the treatment of antibiotic-containing wastewater or industrial wastewater due to its good recyclability and high photocatalytic activity.},

abstract ={Background: Today, water sources are contaminated by various factors, leading to different diseases, including gastrointestinal illnesses. In the process of providing drinking water, disinfection is a crucial step, especially in vulnerable small and rural communities. Therefore, special attention must be paid to raising the awareness of villagers and ensuring necessary coordination between experts and local staff in these areas. Since no study has been conducted to date in Iran on the knowledge, attitudes, and practices of rural water supply providers regarding water disinfection, and thus no general conclusion can be drawn, investigating this topic seems essential. Materials and Methods: This descriptive, cross-sectional study was conducted in selected villages of Kerman province. A total of 42 water supply providers (Water supply personnel) from 42 villages were randomly selected to participate. The data collection tool was a questionnaire with three distinct sections designed to measure participants' knowledge, attitudes, and practices. For statistical analysis, SPSS version 27 was used, and the normality of the distribution of quantitative variables was assessed using the Shapiro-Wilk test. The relationship between the knowledge, attitudes, and practices of the providers regarding chlorination was analyzed using the Spearman correlation coefficient. Results: The research showed that education level is a significant factor influencing a person's knowledge. Furthermore, an increase in knowledge can positively impact an individual's practices and attitudes. It was found that the water supply providers in the target population had poor knowledge and attitudes regarding drinking water chlorination (3.40±1.50, 25.80±4.40, respectively). However, the majority had good practices concerning water chlorination (10.40±1.50). Conclusion: The results of the study indicated that the participants' knowledge and attitude scores were weak (3.40±1.50, 25.80±4.40), with the majority not achieving an acceptable score. Given the importance of providing safe drinking water, holding training courses for rural water supply providers is crucial to enhance their knowledge and attitudes regarding water disinfection. Additionally, due to the limitations of this study and the small size of the target population, it seems necessary to conduct a more extensive study in rural communities across the country to assess the knowledge, attitudes, and practices of water supply providers.},

abstract ={Background: Aquatic ecosystems are constantly exposed to a wide variety of hazardous chemicals or compounds with varying degrees of toxicity, which are released from various human sources. On the other hand, with the development of urbanization, industry and agriculture, which is a consequence of the increase in human population, various levels of pollution are created in surface waters, which affect human and animal life. Therefore, this study was conducted on the permanent Hableh River, which flows in the mountainous region north of Garmsar city, which is important and effective in terms of agriculture and ecology. Materials and Methods: The aim of this study is to assess the abundance and diversity of benthic invertebrates and ultimately determine the biological integrity status of this river. In this study, manual sampling was conducted at five points between Firouzkouh and Garmsar counties. At each point, both biological indicators (benthic invertebrates) and concentrations of organic pollution and dissolved oxygen were evaluated. Results: According to the results, various types of benthic invertebrates such as beetle larvae, fly larvae, dragonfly larvae, fly and beetle pupae, adult reef beetles, butterfly pupae and larvae, leeches, flatworms, roundworms, tapeworms, and snails were identified in this river. Conclusion: From this case study, it can be concluded that these identified benthic invertebrate groups can be selected as representative indicators in the Hablehroud River in terms of the level of water resource pollution and habitat destruction.},

title = {Assessment of the Abundance and Characteristics of Microplastics in the Effluent of the Urban Wastewater Treatment Plant in Zabol},
abstract ={Background: Microplastic pollution has emerged as a significant environmental crisis, posing a serious challenge to human health and ecosystem sustainability, particularly within urban wastewater treatment systems. This study aimed to investigate the abundance, physical characteristics, and chemical composition of microplastics in the effluent of the Zabol urban wastewater treatment plant. Materials and Methods: Sampling of the treated effluent was conducted in the winter of 2024. Three samples, each with a volume of 10 liters, were collected from the effluent of the wastewater treatment plant. For microplastic separation, the samples were passed through sieves of various mesh sizes, followed by chemical digestion and density-based separation. Microplastics were identified and categorized using optical microscopy and Fourier-transform infrared spectroscopy (FTIR). Results: The results indicated that the highest mean abundance was 26.38 ± 1.08 microplastics per liter, with particle sizes ranging from 45 to 425 μm in the treated effluent. The results of the ANOVA test showed that film particles, with a mean abundance of 27.58 ± 1.08 microplastics per liter, accounted for the largest proportion compared to other forms (fibers, fragments, and foams), with a statistically significant difference (p < 0.05). FTIR analysis revealed a considerable diversity of polymers among the detected particles. Among them, polyethylene (PE) showed the highest relative abundance (21.46 ± 0.9), representing the dominant polymer type. Conclusion: The results of this study provide a clear picture of the status of microplastics in the effluent of this wastewater treatment plant. They also highlight the necessity of continuous monitoring, identification of potential sources, management of lightweight plastic waste, reduction of single-use packaging consumption, and the need for further studies on the pathways and environmental impacts of microplastics in arid and water-scarce regions, especially due to the continuous use of this effluent for irrigation of surrounding agricultural lands.},

title = {Optimizing Atmospheric Cold Plasma-Based Advanced Oxidation for the Degradation of Polypropylene Microplastics Using Response Surface Methodology},
abstract ={Background: The presence of microplastics in the environment poses a significant threat to human health. This study aimed to evaluate the performance of an atmospheric cold plasma (ACP) process for the degradation of polypropylene microplastics in aqueous solutions. Materials and Methods: In this laboratory-scale experimental study, key operational parameters including reaction time (30–60 min), applied voltage (20–40 kV), airflow rate (10–20 L/min), pH (4–8), and initial microplastic concentration (500–1000 particles/L) were optimized using a Central Composite Design. Microplastic quantification was performed via microscopic counting. Additional analyses included kinetic modeling, assessment of interfering ions, radical scavenger experiments, energy consumption evaluation, and measurement of COD and TOC removal under optimal conditions. Results: The quadratic model derived from CCD was highly significant (p < 0.0001) and demonstrated that increasing reaction time and applied voltage significantly enhanced removal efficiency. In contrast, higher initial concentrations, excessive airflow rates, and extreme pH conditions negatively affected process performance. The maximum removal efficiency was achieved under optimal conditions, with an applied voltage of 25 kV and an airflow rate of 14 L/min. Neutral pH provided greater stability of reactive species. Kinetic analysis indicated that degradation followed a first-order kinetic model. Radical scavenging experiments confirmed that hydroxyl radicals were the dominant reactive species responsible for degradation. The presence of inorganic ions exhibited both inhibitory and promoting effects depending on their type and concentration. Specific energy consumption analysis demonstrated acceptable energy efficiency of the process. Conclusion: The atmospheric cold plasma process achieved a removal efficiency of 73.2% under optimized conditions and can be considered a promising and energy-efficient approach for the removal of polypropylene microplastics from aqueous environments.},

title = {Assessment and prioritization of environmental risks in the Western oil and gas industries using fuzzy AHP (FAHP)},
abstract ={Background: As the largest energy production sector in the world, the oil and gas industries have always faced many environmental challenges that can have adverse consequences for human health and natural ecosystems. Therefore, this study was conducted to assess and prioritize of environmental risks in the Western oil and gas industries using fuzzy AHP (FAHP) Materials and Methods: In this descriptive study, by using the fuzzy AHP (FAHP), environmental risks were identified and weighted. In so doing, the criteria and sub-criteria including air pollution, water pollution, soil contamination, habitat destruction, noise pollution, long-term risks, and industrial wastes were identified and prioritized by 30 experts. For this purpose, data were collected by a fuzzy pairwise comparison questionnaire and then analyzed using the FAHP method. SPSS version 20 was used for statistical processing and and analysis of the data. Results: The results showed that, with the exception of two cases which achieved the necessary consistency rate after modification, all matrices had CR ≤ 0.1, which indicates the high validity of the results and the accuracy of the method used. Also, "chemical leakage into water," "potentially toxic elements in soil," and "destruction of forest ecosystems" had the greatest weight and importance among the identified environmental risks. Therefore, for optimal management of the identified risks, it is recommended to conduct regular and systematic monitoring of water and soil resources, reduce construction activities in forest areasand sensitive habitats, and also require the use of anti-leakage systems in pipelines. Conclusion: As the results showed, by determining management priorities, it is possible to optimally allocate resources, provide effective mitigation solutions for each risk, and design monitoring and implementation plans based on the relative importance of each risk. Therefore, for optimal management of the identified risks, it is recommended to conduct regular and systematic monitoring of water and soil resources, reduce construction activities in forest areas and sensitive habitats, and also require the use of anti-leakage systems in pipelines. Sensitivity analysis confirmed that water and soil-related risks remained stable across different scenarios and required urgent management attention. Thus, this study provides a systematic framework for prioritizing environmental risk management, which can be applied by policymakers and industrial managers to implement sustainable development strategies and reduce negative environmental impacts.},

title = {Systematic Review on the Application of Biomass-Derived Biochars for the Removal of 2,4-Dichlorophenoxyacetic Acid from Agricultural Water Sources},
abstract ={Background: Water contamination with the herbicide 2,4-Dichlorophenoxyacetic acid (2,4- D) poses a serious environmental challenge, as its residues not only degrade drinking water quality but also threaten aquatic ecosystems and the food chain. The aim of this systematic review was to summarize and critically evaluate existing research on the performance of various biochars in removing this persistent compound from aqueous environments. Materials and Methods: A systematic literature review was conducted following the PRISMA guidelines by searching major scientific databases including Web of Science, Scopus, ScienceDirect, and Google Scholar. The search covered studies published between 2008 and 2025 that investigated the adsorption of 2,4-D onto biochars. Articles were analyzed based on feedstock type, pyrolysis conditions, chemical or physical activation methods, and operational parameters affecting adsorption efficiency. Results: Reported adsorption capacities of biochars varied widely (from below 10 mg g⁻¹ to over 300 mg g⁻¹), mainly depending on the feedstock source, pyrolysis temperature, and surface modification technique. The Langmuir isotherm and pseudo-second-order kinetic models were most frequently identified as the best-fitting, indicating chemisorption and monolayer adsorption behavior. Acidic conditions (pH = 2–3) consistently yielded the highest removal efficiency. Nonetheless, several challenges remain, including limited data on regeneration performance, real-water applications, and the influence of coexisting ions and organic compounds. Conclusion: This review highlights the potential of biochars derived from agricultural residues as cost-effective and sustainable adsorbents for 2,4-D removal. Improving surface chemistry and structural properties through optimized activation methods could enhance adsorption efficiency and facilitate large-scale and environmentally sound applications in water and wastewater treatment.},

title = {Investigation of Photocatalytic Degradation of Tetracycline in Aqueous Solutions using Persulfate / SnO₂/Zn Nanoparticles Proces},
abstract ={Background: In line with the development of green chemistry in wastewater treatment, it is important to investigate effective photocatalysts with reusability and easy separation from wastewater for the removal of tetracycline (TC). SnO2-Zn nanoparticles are known for their low cost, low toxicity, and high stability in removing organic pollutants. For TC degradation, an advanced oxidation process based on sulfate radicals (SO₄•⁻) has been developed due to its high oxidation potential, stability, suitable solubility in water, room temperature operation, and low cost. Materials and Methods: The SnO2-Zn nanocatalyst was synthesized via the co-precipitation method and used alongside UV radiation to activate persulfate. The structure of the nanocatalyst and its mesopores were examined using TEM, SEM, XRD, FTIR, and BET analyses, which confirmed the well-formed mesoporous structure and optimal synthesis of the nanocatalyst in terms of morphology, pore size, surface functional groups, specific surface area, and textural and physical properties. Results: Investigations showed complete removal of TC by the SnO2-Zn/PS/UV processunder optimal conditions, including pH = 9, TC concentration = 15 mg/L, catalyst dose = 0.125 g/L, persulfate concentration = 4 mM, and UV irradiation time = 60 min. The radicals SO₄•⁻, OH•, and H⁺ were the primary species in the photocatalytic degradation, and the mineralization rate reached 81.2%. After five reuse cycles, the efficiency remained above97.44%. Conclusion: These results indicate the high recoverability of the nanocatalyst. The proposed method demonstrates high efficiency in removing emerging compounds and pollutants from wastewater.},

title = {Examining the amount of baking soda and salt in different breads from bakeries in Khoy city},
abstract ={Background: Bread, as a main daily food, provides a major portion of the energy, minerals, and vitamins needed by humans. In recent decades, the use of baking soda (sodium bicarbonate) as a factor to accelerate the dough fermentation process has become popular in some parts of the country, despite its prohibition in bakeries. Baking soda residues in bread can cause digestive upset and impair the absorption of essential elements such as calcium and iron. Materials and Methods: The present study aimed to investigate the amount of baking soda and salt in bread produced by bakeries in Khoy city in a descriptive-analytical and cross- sectional manner. Sampling was conducted from 62 active bakeries, including Lavash bread(24samples), Sangak bread (15 samples), Barbari bread (13 samples), and oil bread (10 samples), and the amount of baking soda was determined based on pH measurement and salt content using a standard method. Results: The results showed that out of the 62 samples, 21 samples had a pH higher than 6.3(indicating the presence of baking soda) and 20 samples had a salt content of more than 2 percent. The highest levels of baking soda and salt were observed in lavash bread with an average pH of 6.21 and a salt content of 2.24 percent, respectively, and the lowest levels wereobserved in Sangak bread (average pH of 5.96) and oil bread (average salt of 1.67 percent). Conclusion: Based on the results, the consumption of baking soda and salt in some bakeries in Khoy city is still above standard levels, and there is a need for further monitoring and education on the correct principles of fermentation and bread flavoring.},

abstract ={Background: The working environment in mines is one of the most dangerous of its kind, which has negative effects on the physical and mental health of workers due to excessive physical workload. Working in such environments is often associated with occupational fatigue, musculoskeletal disorders, and reduced productivity. Therefore, this study was conducted to investigate the relationship between compliance with ergonomic principles, job fatigue, and employee efficiency in the Kermanshah Stone Crusher Mine in 2025. Materials and Methods: In this descriptive study, data were collected using standardized questionnaires on ergonomics, occupational fatigue, and productivity. To analyze the data, Pearson correlation coefficient (PCC), Multiple Linear Regression (MLR) analysis, and structural equation modeling (SEM) were utilized. Also, data analyses were carried out using SPSS version 26 and AMOS Graphics version 24. Results: Based on the results obtained, a significant negative correlation was found betweenadherence to ergonomic principles and occupational fatigue (r = -0.423, p < 0.05), as well as asignificant positive correlation between ergonomics and employee efficiency (r = 0.386, p < 0.05). Furthermore, occupational fatigue was significantly associated with decreased productivity (r=-0.512, p<0.05).The results of the regression analysis also showed that 37.7% of the variance in employee efficiency was influenced by variables related to ergonomic compliance and occupational fatigue. Additionally, structural equation modeling revealed that occupational fatigue plays a mediating role in the relationship between ergonomics and productivity. Ultimately, while confirming all proposed hypotheses, the study highlighted that improving working conditions through the implementation of ergonomic principles can significantly reduce occupational fatigue and increase employee efficiency. Conclusion: The results of the study showed that improving working conditions through the implementation of ergonomic principles significantly reduced job fatigue and increased employee efficiency, which in turn recommends efforts to improve the work environment from the perspective of worker occupational safety and health as a basis for management decisions in the extractive industries.},

abstract ={Background: The mass production, widespread use, and improper disposal of plastic products have led to significant environmental pollution. Over time, larger plastic polymers break down into smaller particles known as microplastics. This study aimed to isolate and identify indigenous beneficial bacteria capable of degrading microplastics in the vicinity of the Lorestan Petrochemical Complex in Khorramabad County, Iran. Materials and Methods: Samples were collected from the rhizosphere of plants, as well as from sludge and contaminated water in the petrochemical area. Following transfer to the laboratory, the samples were cultured on nutrient agar, nutrient broth, and 2XYT media. After isolation and purification, bacterial strains were identified based on phenotypic and biochemical characteristics, as well as partial sequencing of the 16S rRNA gene. The identified species included Pseudomonas koreensis, Curtobacterium flaccumfaciens, Arthrobacter globiformis, and Bacillus cereus. The isolates were further evaluated for their ability to form biofilms, produce siderophores and proteases, exhibit swarming motility, solubilize phosphate, and synthesize indole-3-acetic acid (IAA), among other traits. Results: Among the isolates, Pseudomonas koreensis exhibited the highest levels of biofilm formation, swarming motility, siderophore production, protease activity, and tolerance to petroleum hydrocarbons. Meanwhile, Curtobacterium flaccumfaciens demonstrated the greatest capacity for phosphate solubilization and indole-3-acetic acid production. Conclusion: Bioremediation presents an efficient, economical, and sustainable approach among various remediation strategies, offering the potential for high efficacy with minimal environmental impact in the treatment of contaminated soils.
